Unlike other cultural and ethnic groups in Amsterdam, up until 1997 the Jewish community did not exercise its right to television broadcasts on the local Amsterdam network Salto. To provide substantive Jewish television in the region, the Nefesh Foundation established Nefesh TV in November 1997. Nefesh TV started its weekly television broadcasts in January 1998.
The Nefesh Foundation successfully produces local television broadcasts on Nefesh TV. Nefesh TV spreads knowledge and insight on the many facets of Jewish life and culture and the Jewish community in the Netherlands and in Amsterdam. Regional weekly newspapers, regional radio stations and the Jewish media publicize the weekly broadcasts of Nefesh TV and other productions of the foundation.
Salto Award 2006: Best Television Program
After years of hard work, Nefesh TV was given the Salto Award 2006 for the best television program. Nefesh has also been awarded for the high technical, substantive and creative quality of its programs.
